Let’s keep the conversation going…

A few weeks ago, we shared a blog based on the hard topic of bullying. We have been overwhelmed by the response to the post, the calls and messages we have received from people who have read it and the conversations it has provoked.

Through conversations, training, and sadly through experience we are heartbreakingly aware how prevalent bullying is in our world.

This week Hundred Acre’s Founder Bridget Gilmour was back training and the conversation of workplace bullying was there once more. Sharing her own story again the reaction from delegates was not something she expected. The delegates shared that they had lost one of their own colleagues. Bullying in his world got so bad he took his own life in a horrific way.

Since that conversation, others have also shared the harsh reality. From working in the hotel industry and how frequently they have to deal with suicides in their rooms, the stories in the media again and then the bullying we have sadly witnessed ourselves.

Managing Risks with Risk Assessments

A fundamental part of managing occupational safety and health is to consider risks, which is why you might be familiar with the term risk assessment. In this blog post, we’ll help you understand more about risk assessments and how to apply them in your business.

We understand many people don’t know where to start when it comes to managing health and safety; they think of it as a minefield. Smart business owners know that if they look after their people, their company thrives, but how do you look after the wellbeing of employees? At Hundred Acre, we consider people first. We can help you understand the health implications of your workplace and work with you to develop bespoke improvement strategies, tailored to your business.

By putting health and wellbeing at the top of your agenda, you show your staff how valued they are, which automatically boosts morale. There are certain responsibilities companies must adhere to such as providing drinking water, rest and welfare facilities, but there’s so much more that can be done.

Beating Bullying Behaviour

Those of you who frequently read this blog will know we post about a number of different things relating to our Hundred Acre world, which naturally include topics around safety and health. We also post personal pieces too, and we felt it was time to write a personal piece about a topic that’s been part of our world again recently; bullying.

Bullying is a topic we feel very strongly about as we know and understand the impact it can have on every aspect of your life. While we don’t want to dwell on the negatives, we know we’re not alone and hope this helps people understand that they don’t have to suffer the consequences in silence and together, we can work to eliminate occupational bullying.

Bullying doesn’t just happen to children and young people in school, at college or in clubs; it happens in workplaces and families across the world. It doesn’t come in any specific form, though from what we can tell, it happens far too frequently. If...
